Eco
Lands, powered by Pacific Gas and Electric
Company, will be an interactive conservation
happening within Outside Lands where you can
watch some of today’s most critically acclaimed
artists on a solar powered stage, eat sustainably
at the organic farmer’s market, educate
yourself on energy efficiency, calculate your
carbon footprint, win prizes for recycling and
more!
Along
with taking care of Golden Gate Park, our ultimate
goal is to leave you well informed about ways
to reduce energy use, adopt renewables and
reduce your carbon footprints…all
simple changes in your life that will have a
huge impact on the environment. Oh, and we figured
some of you might want to watch Radiohead, Tom
Petty, or Jack Johnson from the side of the stage.
Travel around Eco Lands, get your Outside Lands
Passport stamped for taking action, and you just
might end up with the best seat in the house!
Solar Stage
While
you’re getting a nice summer tan in the
park, the Outside Lands Solar Stage powered
by PG&E will also be soaking up the sun.
The solar panels on the roof of the stage will
be collecting energy and using it to power
all the equipment on stage, in a working-pumping
example of a complete design. The stage itself
carries a 4-kilowatt solar system, and by using
solar power rather than a diesel generator
or grid power, we will avoid emitting approximately
3,000 lbs per day (1.5 metric tons) of CO2
into the atmosphere. PG&E is pleased to
have partnered with our friends at Sustainable
Waves to provide Outside Lands with the
solar stage.
Passport Program
Inspired by Jack Johnson’s All
At Once Community, we have adopted our own Passport
Program. Check out the Outside Lands Passport
to take action, get stamps, and win a chance
to watch the show from the best seat in the house!
Pick up your own copy of the Passport in Eco
Lands at the festival, printed on 100% recycled,
50% post consumer waste, processed chlorine free
paper with soy based inks. Get stamps for riding
your bicycle to the festival, taking public transportation,
donating to a non-profit, recycling, composting,
eating organic food, measuring your carbon footprint
and more.
Farmer’s
Market
Craving a nice, juicy peach? Lucky for you,
Outside Lands features an on-site farmer’s market,
which will have organic, locally-grown food for
you all day long. Learn to eat sustainably while
watching today’s most critically acclaimed
bands on the solar stage.
PG&E
Pop Up Café
Made entirely of materials reclaimed from
the San Francisco dump, what once was junk
is now the basis for unique, artistic furniture
pieces. Arranged to form an open air lounge,
the PG&E
Pop-Up Cafe will be the place in EcoLands to
relax, and leisurely enjoy some coffee while
learning how you can be greener as well.

Carbon
Footprint Calculator / EcoZone
EcoZone funds real environmental projects in
communities across the country at no cost to
you (a.k.a the taxpayer). EcoZone is proud to
include PG&E and Arrowhead among our environmental
partners. Look for our wind turbine tent in Eco
Lands, featuring the PG&E ClimateSmart interactive
Carbon Footprint Calculator, highlights of celebrity
eco-tips from The EcoZone Project television
show, and the only human-powered Arrowhead Eco-Shape
bottle in existence (that we know of). Powered
by the planet - brought to you by PG&E. Visit www.ecozonemedia.com and www.pge.com/climatesmart to
learn more.
How
to Reduce Your Carbon Footprint
Engage with PG&E's Carbon Footprint Calculators
to learn how to reduce your impact on the environment.
PG&E’s ClimateSmart program, the first
of its kind in the country, allows participants
to balance out their home energy usage for less
than a $5 tax-deductable contribution a month
(based on the typical home). PG&E is also
making the festival one of the largest carbon
neutral events in the country. Visit www.pge.com/climatesmart for
more information about how you can offset your
own carbon emissions.
TRASHed
Recycling Store
We know the dollar isn’t doing so hot in
the global markets, but at the Outside Lands
Recycling Store, bottles and cups are currency.
The store will be stocked with items you can “buy” with
recyclable bottles and compostable cups. Prizes
include concert tickets, festival and band merchandise,
food and drinks, and other festival essentials.
Thanks to our friends at Planet Green and Global
Inheritance for making the TRASHed Recycling
Store possible.
Arrowhead Mountain Spring Water
Arrowhead Mountain Spring Water is proud to support
the recycling initiatives at Outside Lands.
Bring ten empty bottles to the Trashed Recycling
Store in Eco Lands for a new 100% recyclable
Arrowhead Half Liter Eco-Shape™ bottle
of water. Because when we all do a little,
it can add up to a lot.
Cell Phone Recycling
Just
get a new iPhone? If you don’t need your
old cell phone anymore, we’ll gladly
take it off your hands. CollectiveGood will
be collecting used cell phones, which will
either be refurbished and re-used in other
countries or recycled safely, keeping toxic
chemicals out of landfills. For your troubles,
you’ll get your hands on some of the
sweet prizes at the recycling store.
If you
don’t want
to bother bringing your old cell phone to Outside
Lands, you can recycle it your old cell phone
from home. Click
here to recycle your phones and accessories
right now. All revenues from the recycling will
go directly to San Francisco’s Recreation & Park
Department. This support will help the San Francisco
Recreation & Parks restore, preserve, and
maintain our parks and beautiful open spaces
for leisure, recreation and recreation scholarship,
and the appreciation of nature. All are essential
components to urban living.
Solar and Wind Powered Cell Phone Charging
If you’ve used up your whole cell phone
battery telling your friends how much fun you’re
having, you can stop by Eco Lands for a quick
recharge. Our solar tree, equipped with both
a wind turbine and solar panels, is compatible
with just about any phone you might have. Thanks
again to Collective Good and Sustainable Waves!
Non-Profits
Eco Lands feature a wide variety of non-profit
organizations fighting for issues ranging from
water conservation to voter registration to
environmental education. Stop by their tents
to learn about the steps you can take in your
life to be a better friend to the environment
and world.
