MUNI

expand expand

Muni buses and trains are a great way to get to and from Outside Lands. Regular Muni service provides direct access to Golden Gate Park from downtown and the neighborhoods to the north and south. The SFMTA Trip Planner provide custom transit directions.

Getting to Outside Lands, the most popular and direct routes are:

  1. From Downtown, BART, Salesforce Transit Center, and SF neighborhoods to the Main Gate at JFK/30th: Board the 5 Fulton bus or 5R Fulton Rapid bus on Market St, McAllister St, or Fulton St and get off at Fulton/30th. The 38 Geary and 38R Geary Rapid are also popular routes for the Main Gate: the Geary routes pick up on Geary and require a little more walking, so they tend to be less crowded. During the afternoon on Saturday and Sunday of Outside Lands, Muni runs the 5R Fulton Rapid bus service from Montgomery Station to the main entrance at Fulton/30th. The 5R does not normally run on weekends and won’t show in the trip planner, but hop on board if you see one coming. The 5R will pick up at the 5 Fulton bus stops that are located at major intersections.

  2. From 4th/King Caltrain, Downtown, BART, Salesforce Transit Center, and SF neighborhoods to the South Gate at Middle Dr/Metson Rd: The N Judah train is a popular route from Downtown to Outside Lands. Exit the train at Judah/34th Ave and walk to the South Gate. The trains will stop at all regular N Judah stops. Extra N Judah trains will be operating.

  3. From the Neighborhoods to the north and south of Golden Gate Park, including the Marina and Fisherman’s Wharf: the 28 19th Ave is the most popular route for north/south travel, and it is located about 1 mile from the Main and South gates. Heading to the event, transfer at 19th Ave/Judah from the 28 to the N Judah train for the South Gate (exit the N Judah at the 34th Ave stop). Alternatively, transfer at Park Presidio/Fulton from the 28 to the 5/5R Fulton bus for the Main Gate (30th Ave Stop).

Leaving Outside Lands, these are the best options:

  1. Northern Outside Lands gates to Downtown and BART: Muni provides a special bus service back to downtown hotels and BART. This popular and direct bus service is called the 5 Fulton Civic Center Express bus. Pick up this bus by the Outside Lands gates at Fulton/30th Ave or Fulton/25th Ave. The buses will travel non-stop to Civic Center BART Station for drop off.

  2. Northern Outside Lands gates to San Francisco neighborhoods and Salesforce Transit Center: If you are looking for a 5 Fulton bus that makes local bus stops, head to the Fulton/30th and Fulton/25th bus stops and inform one of the Muni employees you would like to board a 5 Rapid. When there are enough local riders, the Muni employees will designate a bus for 5R Fulton Rapid service. For local service, the 38 Geary and 38R Geary Rapid are also popular, though they require a little walking up to Geary St.

  3. Southern Outside Lands gates to San Francisco neighborhoods, Downtown, and 4th/King Caltrain: The N Judah train is a great option if you come out the south entrance and are headed downtown. The trains will stop at all regular N Judah stops. Extra N Judah trains will be operating.

  4. To the Neighborhoods to the north and south of Golden Gate Park, including the Marina and Fisherman’s Wharf: The 28 19th Ave is the most popular route for north/south travel. The bus stops for Route 28 are about 1 mile from the Main and South Gates, so plan to walk about 20 minutes to reach the 28. Extra buses will be operating.

Never taken Muni before? Check this quick start guide.

Plan your Muni trip using the SFMTA Trip Planner or map apps on your phone. Muni real time arrival info shows on all major map apps and on Muni Mobile app.

If you experience or witness an incident, help make Muni a safe space for all by reporting it using the Muni Feedback form at SFMTA.com/MuniFeedback, the 311 mobile app or by calling 311.

Non-English speakers should call 311 for language assisted reporting.

BIKE

expand expand

Outside Lands will offer free self-park bicycle parking areas located at the eastern and southern portions of the festival site. Bike parking is available during festival hours.

Need a ride to Outside Lands? Bay Wheels has you covered with a special Bay Wheels station on JFK Drive, just east of Transverse Drive – right near the festival’s main entrance. On-site valets will make sure there’s an open dock for you to park when you roll up to the festival, and a bike when you’re ready to head home.

SCOOTER

expand expand

If shared electric scooters are your transportation mode of choice, we encourage you to grab a Lime scooter. All you need to do is to download the Lime app on your phone. Once you create your account, just locate a vehicle close by on the in-app map and scan the vehicle's QR code to unlock it. Done!

WALK

expand expand

You can enter the festival on foot via the Main Gate (on JFK near 30th Ave) or South Gate (on Middle Dr & Metson Rd). If you have VIP or Golden Gate Club tickets, the Main VIP Entrance is on the North side, located on 36th Ave. & JFK Drive.

There is also a VIP Entrance located at Martin Luther King Jr Drive, adjacent to the South Gate, for your convenience.

There is a designated ADA Entrance at 36th Ave & JFK.

DRIVE

expand expand

Parking is not available at the festival grounds and is extremely limited in the surrounding neighborhoods. We do not recommend you drive to the festival and recommend you take alternative methods of transportation.

If you must drive, be aware of various parking restrictions in nearby neighborhoods, especially along Fulton, Lincoln, La Playa, and Lower Great Highway. Overnight parking of vehicles taller than 7ft or longer than 12ft any day, street cleaning and 72-hour prohibition violations may result in tickets and towing. Also be cognizant of impinging on driveways and handicap access ramps. The SF Department of Parking and Traffic is on high alert during this period of time.

RIDESHARE

expand expand

Lyft is the official rideshare partner of Outside Lands.

Official rideshare pick-up and drop-off locations are:

  • Balboa & 30th Avenue (adjacent to George Washington High School)

  • Irving St. between 25th and 27th Avenue

Requesting your ride to and from these locations will help you avoid any issues.

Friendly reminder: You can schedule rides to and from the event in the Lyft app up to an hour before you need your ride!

DROP OFFS

expand expand

If you’re planning on getting dropped off at Outside Lands, please know that some streets will be congested or closed entirely to traffic. You can expect nearby streets to be especially congested before and after the event. For this reason, we suggest you get dropped off several blocks north or south of the park. We recommend Geary Blvd or Balboa St to the north, or Irving Street to the south.

The SFMTA’s Slow Streets program is designed to limit through traffic on certain residential streets and allow them to be used as a shared space for people traveling by foot and by bicycle. There are several slow streets in the immediate area, which will further impact vehicular traffic.

What park & road closures can I expect leading up to the festival?

expand expand

Visit our Neighborhood 311 page for more info.

Health & Safety

Is there a medical tent at Outside Lands?

expand expand

Rock Medicine will be on-site to help you with any type of medical problem. Rock Medicine has been providing free medical care at concerts and festivals since 1973. Head to the nearest medical tent on the Polo Field or in McLaren Pass or look for a festival staff member if you need assistance.

What should I do if I have a security issue or witness an emergency situation?

expand expand

Event staff, security personnel and law enforcement will be located throughout the site for the duration of the event to create a safe and secure environment for all festival attendees. Security headquarters are located West of Marx Meadow. If you have an EMERGENCY, find a staff member with a radio or go to the closest information, medical tent or entrance gate for assistance. Be ready to convey the nature and details of the incident.
