Happy Earth Day!

Happy Earth Day! 17 years into our history, we remain as dedicated as ever to creating a greener, more sustainable festival (and planet).

We are proud to have one of the best Waste Diversion rates of any festival in the country. In 2024, we successfully diverted 89% of 320,000 pounds of waste from the landfill through composting, recycling, reuse, and donation. 

As a part of our commitment to sustainability, all cups, plates, and utensils at Outside Lands are 100% compostable. We have compost and recycling at every trash point and offer extensive, free refillable water stations, eliminating plastic water bottles and championing our refillable cup program for beer, wine, and cocktails. 

Behind the scenes, many of our artist dressing rooms and light towers are now solar powered and all generators and heavy equipment are now fueled with R99 renewable diesel, reducing emissions by up to 80%. To further our efforts, we’ve switched from single-use astro turf to recyclable carpet, keeping over 12,300 lbs out of the landfill.

So much of this work is made possible by environmental partners like San Francisco’s Department of the Environment as well as the team at Clean Vibes – armed with a dedicated team of volunteers year after year.
